G’s Artist Practice

I am in love with nature, and my practice explores this relationship—the perceived connection I feel with my environment.

Through my travels, I have come to realise that Australia’s landscape is unlike any other in the world. This has deepened my appreciation for the place I call home and continues to shape my work. My practice researches the Australian Landscape and its complexities, visually exploring my connection with the land.

More broadly, I simply enjoy painting, drawing, and experimenting with materials to create art. I see art as a practice of being present and in sync with myself—an exercise of creativity, which I believe we all have, and it is important to stretch that muscle for our wellbeing.

Honours Project

In 2020 I completed my Honours in Fine Art at UNSW. This included producing a body of work and a written thesis exploring the question:

How can a painting practice critically unpack visualisations of a connection to the Australian Landscape from a Settler-Colonial perspective?

Despite spending the majority of the year in lockdown and confined to online study, I learnt to expand my practice and use the limitations pressed upon me to experiment more.

Awarded a Distinction for my project. I am proud that I persevered and asked the hard questions. I came to realise you can’t progress without failing, and you must embrace mistakes to keep moving forward.
